Triskelion Toastmasters Meeting Notes - Oct 8, 2009

Hello Toastmasters,
Yesterday's meeting was lively and warm in spite of the cold weather. Toastmaster Connie Pshigoda opened the meeting with introductions of 2 new members: Paulette Malone and Jeanne Rutgers. They jumped right in with enthusiastic participation.
Don Lyman stepped up as the speaker giving his audience a descriptive journey to the mountain top and back in "He Said, She Heard." Definitely contest material!
Dan Pratt provided two Words of the Day:

Firebrand (noun)

1. An argumentative troublemaker or revolutionary; one who agitates against the current situation.

"The member of the college's Communist League was a firebrand who would launch a sit-in or protest march at a moment's notice."

2. A torch or other burning stick with a flame at one end.

"The crowd cheered as a firebrand was tossed on the huge pile of wood to start the traditional homecoming bonfire."

Logomachy (noun) plural logomachies

1. Dispute over the meaning of words

2. A conflict waged only as a battle of words

Table Topics ranged from a variety of questions including most outrageous fashion statement to most unusual pet. The winning speaker was new member Jeanne Rutgers. The meeting closed at 12.45-pm followed by an Officer's Meeting.
