Meeting Notes - 23 July 2009

This week’s meeting was great! We had four guests: Tom Hobbs, fellow Toastmaster and area 5 governor, John Graham and Nicole Fatchaline from the Kiewett Company and John Cannata a coworker of Don Lyman.

WOD – was fruition which was presented by Linda Holm.

Laura Drury gave her “ice breaker” speech, “Be yourself – everyone else is already taken”. Laura captured us with childhood events and how she became herself as a young adult, college graduate and computer professional. Laura credited her love of traveling and of meeting people with the person she has become.

Don Lyman evaluated Laura’s speech giving out positive and done right feedback.

Doris Steffe was our table topicmaster. Doris challenged volunteers to help “sell” and “defend” unusual housing/living quarters. Volunteers found themselves living in Titan Missile Silos, Off-Shore platforms, Nuclear Power Plants, etc. Tom Hobbs was voted best table topic with his story about living in a missile silo.

Dan Pratt was our General Evaluator. Meeting started promptly. Many thanks went to Cindy Castilow and Connie Pshigoda for being our timer and grammarian/Ah counter. Everyone was well within their time ranges. There were some tenses that did not match and several people had Ahs. We did not have a theme for the meeting which Dan would have liked us to have.

The meeting was ended with the TM testing us to remember definitions of past “Words of the Day”.

Connie Pshigoda will not be in attendance the next two weeks.

Toastmaster for the next meeting will be Dan Pratt. Thank you for volunteering Dan!

Don Lyman has volunteered to be a speaker. Thank you for volunteering Don!

Meeting Notes - July 16, 2009

Thursday's Toastmaster meeting was full of high spirits. Connie started a new manual and the first project was storytelling. We all gathered in a circle and listened to her telling of the story of "The North Wind and the Sun". She picked this story for it's moral of gentle persuasion. It is a great lesson for us as a club as we strive to meet our goals.

Don was Toastmaster, Dan served as General Evaluator, Linda evaluated Connie's speech, and Doris was our timer.

Our Table Topic Master was Ed. He asked each of us to define the word "gelogenic". Most thought the word had the Latin root gel, but it is actually Greek meaning laughter. Don won the table topic thinking the word sounded like an Italian bicycle team. The true word of the day was "ebullient".

This week we will be meeting in a different room, so please gather in the lobby. Linda will be our Toastmaster, Laura will give her Ice Breaker and Ed will evaluate. We hope to see you there!

Triskelion Meeting Notes - July 9, 2009

Yes, it's finally summer---and the temp is up----but the hottest topics were addressed in today's meeting. Eight members attended with Connie Pshigoda serving as Toastmaster. Krystyna gave her 2nd speech from the CC manual ("Organize Your Speech") on Poland's Casmir Pulaski, a hero of the American Revolution.

Dan Pratt evaluated Krystyna's speech; Doris Steffe gave the Word of the Day and served as Timer; Linda Holms challenged us with Table Topics and Don Lyman served as GE. Returning member, Neal Huffman won the Table Topic Award.

Triskelion Meeting Notes - July 2, 2009

Our club was again in rare form with Dan Pratt as Toastmaster. The theme of the meeting went along with the 4th of July theme of Freedom and Independence. Dan was a little too free, however, as his meeting agenda was virtually invisible.

Don Lyman gave the best Word of the Day presentation we have seen for a long time, giving us the word “rectitude.” After all, it was just the right thing to do.

Next, we took a journey with Linda Holm, visiting Mexico in early July of 1976. It was there that she and her fellow expedition members were saved from scarab beetles and a sinking (and apparently stinking) minibus by a colorful character whom she compared to Indiana Jones!

Connie Pshigoda evaluated her speech, giving some expert pointers.

Krystyna Noworytta gave us Table Topics, asking us what we would do in various situations on a cruise ship. We learned that Cindy Castilow’s former boyfriend Brad Pitt was sometimes seen dining with her, possibly to make Angelina jealous. Cindy entertained us the most, and won best Table Topic speaker award.

Our club president, Connie, presented Doris Steffe and Krystyna with new member Toastmaster pins. Laura Drury just submitted her application, so we will also present her with a pin, possibly at our next meeting.

We will meet this coming Thursday, July 9th. We’re still looking for a Toastmaster, but Linda volunteered for Table Topics, and Carolyn Hariton will deliver a speech.

Also, I just talked with Krystyna. I think she is trying to prepare her 2nd speech for this Thursday.
See you tomorrow.
